I am planning on going to school to become a teacher, but was wondering the above. Also am wondering if that salary gets divided by 52 weeks or by the weeks the school year is, approximately 42. If so, then for those few weeks does one make a little more a week to make up for the summer that one doesnt' work. Thanks.

I saw on either a MSNBC or CNN news program yesterday that the yearly average for teachers (I'm sure that includes elementary teachers also) is $46,000.

Let me just say hopefully you're not from Kansas (like me) where the average is in the low $30,000's. I don't know how we as a nation expect to have excellent education when we don't want to pay teachers what they are worth. I've tossed around the idea of teaching but I'm just not sure I can afford to.

Also, I think in most districts you have the option of choosing how you divide your salary. You can either be paid for 9 months (meaning you won't get any pay checks on summer break) or you can take a little less per paycheck to make it even out and be paid over the summer. Of course there is always the option of teaching summer school for extra money. I think a lot of teachers take up that option.

50,000 for 52 weeks. You still get the summers off though. This varies in different parts of the country and I am only quessing for public schools in the USA

for parochial schools, the starting pay is low. you might see high 20's.
the longer you stay, the more you get, especially if you kiss up to the principal.

Ten years, you can be in the 40's, adjusted for inflation.
you can elect to take the pay every two weeks, or only paid for the time actually worked.
I know public school pays more.

It varies greatly from state to state and city to city...

some teachers get about $22,000 per year...

Here in central Texas the starting pay is around $34,000

Best thing to do is look at some schools you are interested in teaching at and then look up their pay scale online.

not as much as they should get!!! they start out at about 22,000 per year getting paid one time a month. now this all depends on what district and what type of teacher you would like to be and where! public ,private all make a difference.
