Hi, I am in my last year of school in college and am presedent of a music sorority. Next week we are going to induct new members and have a lot of fun during or pledge and after pledge week. During all this our sorority has hired a hypnotist to perform and as the presedent I will have to volunteer and get hypnotized. I am really worried about this because I don't want to embarass myself and am worried that hypnotists could take advantage of me. Has anyone here been hypnotized and knows what it's like? Does it hurt and does it make you all suggestable afterwords? Or..is it just a lot of fun. I want to have fun next week and participate but...this nervous I doubt I can. I appreciate any help.

Not scary at all. I've been hypnotized multiple times. Started when my dentist took a course and used it on me instead of novocaine for pain reief.

Later, I was in the audience when a stage hypnotist was performng and I went under too. They sent me up on stage and I went through the routine. Everybody will have a little fun at your expense but don't worry, you won't be made to embarrass yourself. Further, under hypnosis you cannot be made to do anything that you would not ordinarily do. He might seat you in rows on stage and tell you you are riding in a bus, and the bus driver is beng a jerk, and you're getting mad at him. He might give you a post-hypnotic suggestion, such as, when he says a certain word you will respond by barking like a dog. That sort of thing. Silly but harmless.

It works possibly because of our innate desire to please, coupled with the power of suggestion. But not everyone can be hypnotized. If you are, you will come out of it feeling relaxed and refreshed. So don't worry! It will be fun!

I heard that the hypnotists were creating an army and when they give the signal everyone will snap back into a trance and be mind slaves to the master. Have fun. I hope he doesn't make you pee in a bucket on stage.
