you have to install driver for it, before that you have to check if it was set as master in the CMOS menu.

1. Check to see if the IDE cable and the power cable (that are within the computer) are connected to the CD drive.
2. You may need to install a driver. Check the manufacturers website and see if they have a driver for it.
3. You may need to change some settings in the BIOS. You may need to adjust the jumper on the back of the CD drive as well.

Have you recently opened the case? This sounds like one of the cables inside the case may not be properly connected. You can slim this down further, if the tray opens when you press the button, the ribbon cable could be the problem. If the ribbon cable is fully connected it could be a jumper problem on the drive. If it is not that you may want to try running your add remove hardware wizard to see if you can find and add the device.
