The biggest key to racing is M O N E Y! You can go racing fairly cheaply, but even go-kart racing costs bucks. I spent less running my street stock for 1 year than I did on my go-kart. Step one is to find your local race tracks and see what is going on. Unless you can talk someone into letting you drive their stuff (highly unlikely) you will wind up buying your own car or kart. Getting started from scratch is the hard part. Once you're in and on the track, it's all about taking care of your equipment, learning the ropes, and making friends and connections who can help you succeed.

You have to start out without sponsors at the local level then if your are good people will take notice. After you become popular the sponsors will come. Contact your local dirt track for information about racing there.

There are racing schools that have pro drivers as instructors, you could look into being certified at one of them.
