Horace Logan the M.C. for the Lousiania Hayride(National Radio Show) coined the term in 1954 after mobs of fans (girls) would hang out long after the show ended to catch a glimpse or even be lucky enough for an autograph. The crowds wouldn't leave until Horace said "Elvis has left the building." Hope this helps

I loved Elvis. He died sometime during the day on August 16, 1977. He had been to the dentist the night before and played racquet ball. He went to bed with his girlfriend, Ginger Alden. She said he got up and went to the bathroom. She found him in the early afternoon.

He just left here about 20 min ago, he said he was going to stop off at the Kwik E Mart and pick up some Depends and he'd be right home. I told him to call when before he leaves the store, I might remember something I need but I couldnt think of anything when he left.

I think in 1977, but that's just a guess. He's been at IHOP ever since, waiting to get some stuffed French toast and one of those three-egg omelets.

He 'left the building' after every show, and probably went to his Hotel Suite.
