An evolutionist would say it's a leftover from when we had claws oh so many millions of years ago. I say it's because that's how God made us. Besides, what would you paint if you didn't have nails?

Nearly all animals have some sort of nail, hoof or claw at the end of their digits. They are usefull tools that we still find usefull so they are still with us.

They are made from modified hair and like hair continue to grow for a short time after you die.

"Leftovers" from when our very distant mammal ancestors had claws. Creationists take note, you also have an appendix, ( another leftover or 'vestigial' organ) which is useless to you now, but take it out of a rabbit for example and it could not digest its food.

Evolutionary leftovers- used to be more claw-like, for climbing trees, fighting, etc. Nowadays, it is a mystery why we still have them- they've evolved down to nails, but why have anything? Why do we need soft skin underneath them?
