I'm taking Nonprofit accounting online. I've been having problems between bridging the gap of understanding and applying the information in the book. The book gives real general descriptions of different funds with no examples. Then for the homework it gives really descritptive questions in which you are to apply the real broad information to and tell which fund it is. I've been to the free accounting tutoring service, and they pretty much told me they have no experience in Nonprofit accounting and gave me the answer book to copy the answers which have no explanation. I'm to the point where I don't feel like I'm learning what I should be and I don't have any other ideas to help me better understand these definitions of funds, should I drop? Sorry if I sound crazy but I'm about at the point where I'm pulling my hair out. lol

This sounds like a class that would be much more understandable in a real classroom where you could interact with a person, instead of taking it online. It also sounds badly written. I would drop it and look at a community college for something better.

Nonprofit accounting, hmm... I had this problem when I took Calculus. Unfortunately one of the toughest things about taking a class is the translation from theory to application. For me it was rather different because I could seek live person help (no matter how minimal). If you are totally incapable of finding a tutor or any other resource, think about a For Dummies book or another clear study guide. If all else fails, I would only seriously recommend dropping the class if you have nothing to lose by it. I'm not sure if you're in college or if this is something you are doing for fun, but if you stand to lose nothing by dropping it, then that might be something to consider.

Basically, weigh your options.

Yes drop and study upon it before you take it again. Talk to the professor about where to get some experience with applying real life situations to your work. I had the same problem.I majored in accounting too, I am three classes away from the degree and I still feel as if I know nothing. Also, I have never heard of non profit accounting, must be new!

u shouldnt drop it, do you know anyone else taking the class?, u could ask them to try and explain it. if not i would suggest seeing if you could talk to someone that uses the same skills that you are learning that way u could ask them questions about your class. or u could always see about getting a online tutor
hope this helps

The problem is you don't state your age. If you don't think you are learning, drop the class!
