I had a sonogram with my current preg. at 16 weeks...the tech said she couldn't quite tell the sex. When I was pregnant with my son I also had my first sono at 16 weeks and there was no mistaking that he was a boy. It was clear as day. I've heard it's easier to tell a boy from a girl so I was wondering if perhaps this one is a girl because she couldn't quite tell. I know it's not a full proof thing just curious as to what others think. I'm currently 19 weeks and I am going for another sono soon. Thanks in advance

I think you answered your own question.Boys definitly show up earlier (for obvious reasons). Oftentimes girls cant be seen till nearly 25 weeks along when the labias begin to swell more. Dont be suprised if they still cant tell at 19 weeks, unless the tech want to guess its a girl based on the absence of obvious boy parts-but that can be a big mistake,I dont call it unless I see it in my practice.

It's not always possible to determine the sex of an unborn child through sonogram, particularly at 16 weeks. A sonogram done between 12 and 16 weeks is usually done to confirm the estimated date of delivery, and to determine the size of the fetus, as it is most accurate for this purpose during 12 to 16 weeks.

Technicians who do the sonograms are sometimes reluctant to give information regarding the sex of an unborn child, as well, because the sonogram is not 100%, and some have been known to give incorrect information based on what they have seen (or thought they saw). The only 100% effective sex determinant before the baby is born is through amniocentesis, as the DNA of the unborn child can be extracted from the amniotic fluid that is drawn out through the needle. However, an amnio is only done if it is medically indicated, for other reasons than determining the sex of the child.
Try not to be too anxious to know the baby's sex. Chances are that later in your pregnancy, as the baby grows bigger, sonograms taken close to your delivery date can give a better picture. Good luck and congratulations.

not sure. I'm due in late November with my first and I just had a sonogram (my 3rd or 4th) this past Friday. even though the doctor said that it was a 95% chance that it was a girl (because of the hamburger she noted), I still have my doubts. I mean, these things are never 100% accurate. I don't know, but I have a boy's name picked out, and my husband and I are still debating in whether Sara Angelina is a good enough girl's name. we have more searching to do on that!

When I had my sonogram the baby kept moving and putting it's hand in the way. Once it finally did show itself to the tech, she couldn't tell. But we didn't want to know anyways. And it turned out to be a boy!!!! Good luck to you!!!!!

Wait it out.

Some times they can't tell if it is a boy or a girl that soon because the genitals aren't fully formed.

it could be in a position when it's hard to see. And yes, in this case it hard to say sometimes if it's a girl or you can't just see because the baby is not in the best position to see his/her gender. Well, you'll find out soon, be patient. good luck.

They said that when I was pregnant. Sure enough she was a girl. I was very happy. So who knows it may be the girl you wanted.
