To spread the word of Allah. Becoming Muslim allowed for more freedoms denied Christians and Jews. However in the beginning Christians and Jews were treated leniently.

from what i heard...early in that religion they spread through obviously military conquest but also by uniting the bedowen tribes and taxing non muslims
