a lot of people here are probably going to say the South, but that's not true (okay maybe it's true about Mississippi, or about the Deep South). You could live in Alabama if you wanted to, or Georgia (Atlanta is very nice),you just shouldn't live WAY down South, unless it's on the beach.
You might want to live somewhere with a similar climate, so try the North east or some parts of the Mid West.
Just don't live in any hick towns out in the sticks. and if they ever say "I don't like dem Johnny Foreigners" get the heck outta Dodge.

Everyone keeps saying to avoid the "southern states" but that's just a stereo-type. I'm from the south, Texas to be exact and now I live on the west coast. People are extremely friendly in the south and the days of "KKK" have long been gone. Except for your extreme small towns which i'm sure you won't be living in. I would say stay away from the west coast, and that comes from my personal experience here. I've been living here for one year this month and have hardly met anyone of sincere nature. I find everyone to be rude, stuck-up, and pretty much out for themselves. There's not a warm feeling like there is in the south.

Texas, The South, the Midwest and the South West with the exception of California... but they can be too liberal which is also not a good thing.... Try the Metro DC area, The Northeast/New England, Pacific Northwest and Chicago. I think this is really for you to decide on your own.

The states and regions that I had listed as to NOT live there, are wonderful parts of America, have great industry, education and business, yet they might be TOO conservative for your tastes. If you have the chance to, take a short holiday before you move, its really too far to come without knowing where you want to be.

Most Brits I have known, have loved Boulder, Colorado and Santa Fe, NM. Seattle is pretty open minded as is Phoenix. I found Fresno, California a really nice community. Miami Beach is wild, Tampa is a nice place, Atlanta is probably the best city in the Bible Belt if you MUST go there.

You need to find an International City and that eliminates most cities in the U.S. AVOID the Bible Belt and any place in New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.

Live anywhere. If you are indeed tolerant and open minded maybe your positive traits will rub off on less tolerant people. Good luck!

That being said, living in conservative areas (rural America, parts of the South and Mid-west; telling you from personal experience) may add a further burden on your attempt to assimilate; but it's not impossible.

So you want to immigrate... I've been living in the US since I was 6, came from the UK, British parents.
I agree with some of the answerers, stay out of the bible belt areas...and michigan for that matter, at least south eastern Mi...unemployment rates are sky high here.

Um, doesn't job opportunity fall into your list of considerations?

Any ya'll say we're close minded?? Hmmm.....
Anyway, it's quiet and peaceful in the south, except for the occasional hurricane & tornado when seasons change. The winters are mild and the people friendly. Just visit and see for yourself, k?
