Pet turtles definitely have a distinct odor, but with regular cleaning of their tank, which is fairly easy, the odor is evident only when the turtle is out and about, not something that would permeate a room.

i have had turtles in the past and yes they do smell. as long as you keep the tank clean that will help minimize it. no matter how clean the turtle will have an odor, its not too bad but if you let the tank get really dirty then it will smell badly.

Yes, turtles can smell very well. They will walk up to their food and smell it before eating it to make sure its indeed food they would want.
