I am good at applying makeup (I do it for family and friends besides myself) and I have gotten it done for a few events.... a wedding, an engagement party, etc... It is the best thing for a big event. My makeup is awesome (there is nothing like a professional, which I am not) and it lasts throughout the event. Since it can be expensive, a good idea is to go to a makeup counter (MAC is wonderful!) and they will do it for free. You dont have to pay or tip, but it is common courtesty to buy a product from the person who does your makeup. In a sense, the commision from the produt you buy is her pay. Usually when they do the makeup there is a product you will like, so if you buy it that is a good deal for you and them.

For sure. I'd have to see their work first maybe on other people, or do a trial test a week or two before the actual event- meaning go get my make up done and see how well of a job the person does and if it is worth the money.
Ask people how much they spent and if it is wroth it.
Personally, I would for sure pay to get my make up done before a big event.

I would get my makeup down professionally. Especially if it's for a big event like a wedding or a prom.

I would go to different places, look at examples of their work and get price quotes and decide that way. Each person charges different and in some cases everyone in one city may charge the same. Shopping around to getthe lowest price and the best work. I am in a small town so I would not have to pay too much. Depending on who i visit it could be $15 or more.

I wouldn't pay someone. You can go to any makeup counter in a mall and schedule a free makeover. they do them free in hopes that you'll buy some of their products. if this fails, i just do my own makeup. you dont have to look oscar worthy for normal events.

Oh yes- Even though I am a pro at putting on my own makeup. I am definitely having someone else do my makeup on my wedding day :)

really big? like prom or wedding? hell yes. especially those events where people take pictures.
but dont just hire them and let go. when they're putting on the makeup, chat and ask them what kind of makeup is right for you. they're happy to share what they know, and you're happy to learn for your everyday knowledge!

No because they never do it right. Practice yourself before the event and then just do it yourself. If you are used to doing your own make up anyway then it shouldn't be a big deal.

I prefer to do my own. I find that when I let others do it I don't look like myself and I end up with a mask of makeup on. I paid for my makeup to be done on my wedding day, but thats about it.

I am very in to makeup and also I am a very artsy person. A lot of the time people come to me to get they're makeup done. If you are very profficient in the art of make up I suggest to do it yourself but there is nothing wrong with you having to go get it done. If you do go and get it done I recommend a MAC counter. You can probably find one in a department store at your local mall.
