It means that the further away a society or individual gets from an unfortunate event, the more likely they will be to analyze it in different ways then when the event was still fresh in their minds. One of the many ways to look back on something important is with humor.

It means that in time, even tragic events turn into comedic fodder. For example enough time has passed that we as a nation can make jokes about president lincoln's assasination, while JFK's assasination is still a little too fresh in our memories.

It is another way of saying "this too, shall pass" as in all events, no matter how great or terrible, eventually fade into memory.

in today's people needs to find something funny about the way we are living and try to make lite of it.
if we worry about the things that is going on in your life and or all of our lives we then would not be happy and or go on with our daily lives as it is right now.
so we try to joke about the dumb things we do.
like if we trip and fall,to us it wasn't funny, but to others it was and then as time passes and we start to think about it,it was.
