I noticed that animals in or around Australia tend to be more deadly than elsewhere in the world -- take the funnel web spider, the sea snake, or the box jelly for examples.
Maybe their sing rays are more poisonous than they are elsewhere in the world.

Stingrays contain neurotoxins, which in certain circumstances can be deadly. It depends where and how one is stung, bitten, jabbed, injected or otherwise and how much of the toxin is released. Unfortunately, in Steve Irwin's case, he was hit directly in a vital area (the heart) where there is a large amount of stimulation from the brain to keep one alive. If he were hit just a few inches off in any direction, my guess would be that he would be alive today. Snakes and spiders are commonly more dangerous, but neurotoxins from many organisms can have the same effect if encountered correctly (or rather, incorrectly).

Stingrays are considered passive creatures, but their venom and their barbed tails can be deadly, experts say.
Even so, fatal attacks such as the one that killed television star and naturalist Steve Irwin are extrenely rare.
Irwin, 44, died today when a spear-like stingray barb pierced his chest while diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and it's believed he may have had a heart attack.

Since they came with a 10" dagger, he got caught by a freak accident, he's all of like the 18th person ever recorded getting killed by a sting ray.
And Scott, he didn't even know the ray was there, he was swimming over it when it was buried in the sand and the ray reacted normally, the dude was NOT at fault in any way as far as anyone was concerned they were swimming in totally peaceful waters.

Sting rays are not deadly UNLESS you touch there tails, or head, because if you do they will turn on you and sting you if your petting them, but if your in Iwirn place you best not to even mess with them, because they will attack you, and they will hurt you since they are in the ocean and are'nt used to people.

It happens, my cousin had a stingray tail go through her foot. They are not deadly unless they happen to go through a vital organ, like the Corwin case.

There not deadlier now that some famous person has died. They can hurt cause the spine is very sharp so you just need to watch it when your with them. I go swimming with sting rays every now and then when I go on vacation.

When morons try to film them, don't know what they're doing, and take unacceptable risks.
