We are very far away from cold fusion. Despite over a decade of research no one has been able to prove beyond a doubt that cold fusion actually occurs. This means that even if it does occur (which I doubt) then its not producing enough energy to be noticeable. How do you plan to power a country with so little power?

Other the other hand thermonuclear fusion is proven. We know how to heat it, how to confine it, how to get a positive power output, but we still have to make it profitable. There is a major experiment being built is France known as ITER that when complete will help greatly along this line. After ITER the next step is to build a pilot power plant and then it will be time to start making megawatts.

The only advantage to cold fusion over thermonuclear fusion is that it is easier to ignite. Yet scientists have failed to prove this claim.

The cold fusion debacle of a few years back made "cold fusion" pretty much a buzz word (buzz phrase?).

The idea of a safe, cheap and non-polluting energy source is enough to excite anyone in these days of $2.00 heating oil and $3.00 a gallon gas.

It was later debunked around the world as other laboratories tried unsuccessfully to duplicate the alleged results of the initial published findings. Whether or not it was an out and out hoax or just sloppy lab work was never really determined conclusively.

After the extensive experiments and research and development that followed the hype - it is today pretty much on the back burner. Most labs with the facilities and expertise to follow up on its research are pretty much convinced that it probably exists only in theory - and, if it is possible, would never be as viable an energy source as a controlled fusion or present day fission plants.

It appeared to be a great picnic, but then the ants showed up.

Sorry honey, I in no way had something to show any of my labors have been quickly. only the contractions which meant i replaced into in hard artwork! First on the initiating then in the middle and then lower back i ought to have a million or 2 greater bursts of nesting in direction of the top yet none has ever been close to while i actually went into hard artwork. i'm at present in my fourth bout of nesting with this being pregnant. and that i'm purely 33 weeks.

The answer to your question will come from China, where serious research is undergoing tests. They feel they are on the edge of a breakthrough, possibly as early as 2008.
