Not allowed? It's more like an old fashion no no that some people still think exist. The whole point was to not wear white dress shoes or white dress clothes after labor day. White is seen as something you wear during the spring and summer months and not fall and winter. Though most people don't wear white dress clothes or shoes during the fall and winter. Anything else is fine.

Because its supposed to be end of summer!
Generally light colors are associated with spring and summer and dark with winter and fall.

You can still wear white though, don't worry.
A cute white dress or tank top is cute, but I wouldn't wear a white jacket after Labor Day. Cream is better.

Its allowed. But back in the 70s it wasn't in style to wear white after labor day. I think it has to do with the weather.

White was traditionally thought of as a summer color and Labor Day was the unofficial end of summer. These days though, you'll find that few people actually follow that fashion rule of "white not before Memorial Day and not after Labor Day".

" The only logical reasoning we could find cited temperature. Image consultant Nancy Penn suggests that because white reflects light and heat, wearing white would make you cooler in winter, and thus should be avoided. But others suggest the rule stems from a class issue. Acting Director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Valerie Steele notes that in the late 19th century and the 1950s, more people were entering the middle classes. These nouveau-riche folks were often unaware of the standards of high society, so they were given specific codified rules to follow in order to fit in."

Its an old social thing from "society members". No white until Memorial Day and no white after Labor Day. Unless you're attending black tie affairs or such, I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm not sure of the reason, but I'm guessing it's an old fashion rule based on the fact that white was thought of as a light, cottony, summer color. In my opinion, however, if it's done right, you can wear white any time of year ; )

What do you mean, not allowed? Are you going to be arrested if you do? Wear whatever the hell you want... It's just some old fashion BS thought up by some skinny old designing woman or some gay male fashion critic.

Besides just being an old-fashioned rule, it is pretty much ignored now. Hence "winter white" sweaters, scarves....
