A doctor will usually base treatment on the culture results. If the specimen showed a huge growth of yeast, it may well take several days to knock it out. Your doctor just wants to be sure the infection does get knocked down enough so it does't come right back once treatment stops.

The difference between the 1, 3 and 7 day treatments is the amount of active ingredients in the treatment.

In the past I was getting a recurrence of the yeast infection after I'd used the 1 day treatment. My doctor suggested using the 3 or 7 day treatments because you're getting the medicine over a few days, in this way your body has a chance to react and work with the treatment. It's the same reason you get a 10 day does of anti-biotic for an ear infection. A one dose shot of medicine might not clear up the infection.

Now when I get a yeast infection, I usually take 2, 3 day treatments. This is what works best for me. Of course if you don't want to mess with Monistat get a prescription for Diflucan, one pill, one time, it's great.

Drug companies cost is what makes the difference. Would you rather pay $12 bucks for a 7 day treatment or $90 bucks for a 1 day treatment? Your doctor is not wanting you to suffer, but wants you to get the biggest bang for your buck. The richer you are the quicker you get cured, even when it comes down to an ignorant yeast infection.

sometimes you cant knock a yeast infection out with a one day solution your doctor can best determine which one is the right one for you depending on the severity of the yeast infection.
