You say she has problems passing stools, did you mean she's a little constipated? Or not passing at all? Your baby might not like a more diluted formula.
If she's constipated, try boiling some rice with water, strain off the rice and use that water to prepare your formula. My gal was on Similac and experience the same problem. This "rice water" method worked like a charm. "Rice water" is harmless anyway, worth a try!
Another alternative, try giving some unsweetened prune juice for babies. If you are unsure, seek some professional advice. They might recommend you an alternative formula.
Good luck with yr gal!

My daughter was on that (she's 5 weeks old) and she had very hard stools. We tried Similac w/ Iron, Enfamil w/ Iron, Similac Advanced w/iron. None of them worked for her. I finally tried Enfamil Gentlease which is 1/4 of the lactose and has broken down proteins and is easier on their bellies, and she has a bowel movement every day now and they are at the right consistency.

But.. if you don't want to switch formulas, here's something else that will help. Prune juice. You mix 1 teaspoon per ounce of formula, once a day, and it helps soften their bowels. So say if you had a 4oz bottle, use 4 teaspoons of prune juice. Then once you get her regulated on that, slowly cut down.

Just make sure her doctor okay's it.

Talk to a real doctor, yahoo answers is great for questions about how to calm a fussy baby and where to buy great baby items but if you really care about your child ask a doctor. The doctor may tell you that you need to change your formula all together, which is not uncommon in young babies. The doctor may also say that it's normal for formula fed babies to have constipation problems. They went to med school and they are the best to ask. If you dont want to wait for a doctors visit call the office, most likely you can speak with a nurse who will refer the question to a doctor if she cant handle it.

Dont' use more water, or less water, or karo syrup, or cow's milk! My son had the same problem on the same formula when he was a baby. Sometimes kids just don't poop, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you really are concerned, you can go to the drugstore and get the baby supositories that you insert rectally. These will soften her stool and help it pass easier. Giving cow's milk or karo syrup to an infant that young could make her very, very sick.
I hope this helps

My daughter had this problem on the powdered formula. I switched to concentrate and that took care of it. She had a hard time digesting the powder for some reason. I would definately ask your ped though, they will help you decide if it is the brand of formula you are using. Try the concentrate and see if this helps. Good luck!

It depends on the formula because that could be the whole problem right there. With all three of my girls I had to swich their formula several time before I found the right one. The that I found to be the easiest on their stomacs is Enfimil with iron in the can. All my girls the powdered made them constipated. Try the Enfimil with iron and give about a week to completely get threw her system, and see how she does.

Some infants cannot handle iron in formula. Please check with her doctor to see if she can change formulas. Don't just do it yourself--your daughter needs the iron. The doctor may have a way for her to get it another way. Do not ever change the water content in formula--you can make her very sick doing that!

No, talk to the dr and say what he says. A lot of babies have problems with their digestive systems, they're still working out the kinks. Constipation, loose stools, gas, all fairly normal. Iron will cause constipation too. Just talk to the doc about it. And, what you may think isn't normal, may actually be.

I advise you to talk to your doctor about this. Why are you trusting the health of your baby to a group of people on the internet?
Talk to your doctor, and get enrolled in a baby massage course- you'll find ways of relieving your babies problem this way, NOT through messing around with formula quantities.
Good luck.

No you should never mess with the formula/water dilution I'm sure it says this on the can!! Doing things like that can cause serious problems with their liver and bowel!! Try something more natural like prune juice!!! Or see a doctor!!!
