Actually being that the USPS is a federal operation, it would be a federal crime which can result in incarceration in a federal prison for @ least 1 year (federal prisoners serve every day of their sentence...no time off for good behavior). Why would you steal stamps from the post office? I don' think it very serious. Probably what you would get if you stole something from a store. I don't know.
