Tony Blair's legacy will be resemble his government - full of spin. Unfortunately he may be deluded enough to believe it.
I had high hopes for Blair and was delighted when New labour became the government after 18 years of Tory misrule I thought things would improve. I give him enough time to turn the tanker - which admittedly he did..... the wrong way!
Having watched Blair very closely, especially his efforts in NI a few things are clear, he starts a lot and finishes little, he promises high and achieves low, he talks strong but cowers like a political coward. For me the latter is how I'll remember Blair.
I'm sorry to say it but never, in 30 years of so of actively following politics, has an individual been such a disappointment.

Aside from the long term fallout in supporting Bush and Iraq etc, his legacy must be his governments association with spin and his part in ensuring the continuation of a right of centre agenda in British politics and the introduction of a more presidential style .He will be seen as responsible for implementing many laws that began to erode personal freedoms whilst giving disproportionate powers to central government. His longer term legacies at home in failing to really get to grips with the NHS, education, housing, environmental issues and social inequalities will no doubt have a greater impact on us in the future.

Well where to begin on this one. I will have a go anyway.
Firstly he has done a very good job at being a slavish supporter of US Imperialism. He has succeeded in rolling back our services and bringing big business into our schools, hospitals, Civil Service and totally undermining local authorities and local democracy.
He has succeeded in dragging the Labour Party through the mud and alienating a whole generation of working people from politics. He has fuelled the rise in extremism in this country demonising groups of people, when in reality it is the failure of the capitalist system that is responsible for the way society is breaking down.
If the CBI told him to jump off a cliff Tony's answer would be "Which one". He is the best Conservative that the Conservative Party never had and his betrayal and sell out of the Labour movement and working people has done nothing other than to assist a Tory revival and aid the rise of nasty little hate groups such as the BNP who have sought to capitalise on the political vacuum left by Tony Blair and New Labour's betrayal of the vast majority of working people in this country.
He will leave a country that is:
More divided than ever with an even bigger gap between rich and poor.
Over 100,000 homeless and rising as the destruction of services such as Council Housing continue apace.
The break up and fragmentation of the NHS.
More taxpayer's money being wasted in profits for big business rather than being invested in the public services as it should be.
A country with a political system that is totally discredited and steeped in corruption, spin and sleaze.
Alienation of ordinary Labour voters who have seen one betrayal after another as Tony seeks to please his masters in the CBI. They have filled their pockets with taxpayer's money while hard working public sector workers can't even afford the basics such as a house.
Tony Blair is a defunct Prime Minister who is part of a discredited and bankrupt Government. Ordinary working people through their trade unions and constituency parties need to reclaim the Labour Party and throw out the Tory agents of New Labour that have so discredited and tainted the Labour movement.
The Labour Party needs to adopt socialist measures to even begin to tackle the chronic social problems that blight our country. Privatisation and the destruction of public services is not the answer and has and continues to be a dismal failure, the only beneficiaries being big business who have been allowed to fill their pockets with taxpayer's money while essential services have been cut and fragmented and working conditions driven back to Dickensian times.
Throw out the Blairites for a peoples Labour Pary that represents the interests of the majority. We already have two Tory Parties we don't need a third.

Personally, I think he has shown a lot of courage. He has followed his convictions and taken terrorism seriously, unlike most European countries. He hasn't always done the popular thing, but he has been true to himself and true to his country.
As for his legacy, nobody really knows, but I'm betting that history will judge him more kindly than the present.

Did HE say he was going to leave next year? Until he does, he's not going anywhere.
His legacy will be of a strong international leader who didn't cringe in the face of public (misinformed) dissent on his anti-terrorism policies; one who committed troops to sound international deterrent/police forces, bringing much needed regime change and social uplift to areas long subjugated by secular and religious despotism; of securing the UK by enabling strong and in-depth anti-terror tactics that prevented many, many attacks while being minorly invasive to people's liberties; of being the RIGHT guy at the RIGHT time backing the RIGHT policies against the furor from within and outside his party, against the naysayers and standers-by who continue to be reluctant when liberty and democracy are challenged because they shun a much-needed and decisive fight and believe they can negotiate their way out of anything; he will be remembered as a man who knew when dialogue was constructive and knew when it was debilitating.
Tony Blair is the type of leader every free nation should aspire to elect, because he cares about his opinions and stances and shows leadership and courage in every instance it is required. Damned lucky Brits you are!

He'll simply be remembered as yet another politician who bungles his way through his political life, messing up everythign he touches. Causing more pain and anguish than he actually nows. See NHS mess he's created. Invading Iraq without a shred of credible evidence that they had WMD, but as with most former "leaders" and I use the word very loosely for him, he'll walk into a very highly paid job in civvie street.

If your a yank hes a mighty fine fellow. If your European he is great he has given them our wealth. If your Iraqi he has destroyed a country with lies. If your British he has left your grand kids and theirs a debt that will crucify them. That's if the immigrants haven't had it all. He has left us with more serious crime, more racial tension and a third world health service. He has himself a massive pension, book tours and speeches to earn millions. He is sleazy,a liar and the worst PM for decades.
