I saw a man on the bus acting strange in the presence of his little daughter, I sort of sensed something wasn't all right in their relationship and I wanted to talk to the guy but even if something sad and bad was happening there, how would I prove it? Today, I saw a guy kick his dog and when I threatened to call the police he wanted to hit me and I am a girl!! What do you do when you see such terrible things happen and you're alone and no one would stand up for the kid or the animal? These kind od situations really p*** me off because I love everything that's innocent & needs protection. And other people are so selfish, they don't see what's going on because they don't want to. And I'm not from the States, the cops here don't make it on time!

i'm from europe and unfortu. things aren't as advanced here as they are in the states, including animal shelter, protection of children, etc. so you can't do anything but call the cops but they are lousy and never make it on time.

The place you're talking about really sounds like where i come from (india---and yes it does seem pretty useless to call cops when they take 2 hours to get there) Its really nice to hear how some people are actually concerned about what's going on, when to most people, watching these things happen is totally normal to them. Having experience with these kind of things, i really think that setting a good example is the best thing you can do.
I saw people throwing rocks at a stray puppy, and told them to stop and asked them what pleasure they get out of it. Someone tells me to throw the candy wrapper out the window (considered the normal thing to do here) just becuase there's know trash can nearby, i told them i don't want to contribute to the pollution that's harming our Earth, even it is a small piece of paper. These are just some small things that i have done to be different from the selfish world around me. And you will be amazed by how many people you can inspire by one small action.

You're right; people ignore a frightening amount. I think they're uncertain and don't want to 'interfere'. When I was in trouble, I sought out the help on my own. The best thing might be for you to go to organizations that deal directly with the type of cruelty you witnessed - animal protection groups, social service, etc. There is a group for nearly everything that is willing to help.

Once I used to take risks too.But I ended up in trouble without making a change. Now I have friends whom I help against such cruelties. It's a kind of a network.A network of the people like me.You can't always stop cruelty. But do try it when you see a child victim.

Make notes about appearances, distinguishing marks, clothing, report it to authorities for a follow-up. If a child is involved, contact local social services department, describe your instinct and any details about how to find the perpetrator. Don't get personally involved. You could become an unwilling victim.

Use your instincts that man with the little girl may not have been her father she could have been his victim. Use your cell phone and call 911. Get as much information as you can without drawing a lot of attention to yourself. Be safe.

Most people like that are cowards when faced with someone their own size. Find someone bigger & have a chat with him.
