Currently there are 300 games that are backwards compatible on the Xbox 360 from the original Xbox. As far as I know game saves cannot be transferred to the 360 harddrive. To play the games you need an emulator and the only way that I know of getting it is online off of XBOX Live. The first site I linked is the FAQ from xbox.com, the second is the list of games that are compatible, and the third is the list of known technical issues. If you ask me though, if you want to continue to play Xbox 1 games and you have an Xbox, keep the Xbox and don't even bother with the compatibility on the 360.

if you just have the core system you'll need to buy the hard dricew for it ($99) but if you already have one, the 360 can only play a certain amount of old xbox games, you should go to www.xbox.com and look for backward compatability, click there, download the update to your comp. save it on a disk and load it into your 360. then you'lll be able to play old games. they come out with new updates every month too by the way. also, im not sure if you can tranfer data, sorry

I believe you need the 360 hard drive to play old xbox games. Do you have one? If so. I don't know. Just remember reading that on their site.
