i am deciding wether to buy a amd semron 2800 1.6ghz processor for £28 for my second p.c
i can buy a intel celeron with a clock speed of 2.6ghz for about the same price,but which is the faster
i know that amd uses a different nomanculture to intel but is the amd as fast as the celeron
which one would you go for?
pick either celeron 2.6 ghz or sempron 1.6ghz

Well tough question. But one thing is certain, they are both low-quality processors. I.e. a Pentium 4 owns them both. However, if you need a processor for graphics, get AMD. Otherwise, go for the celeron.

p.s. try saving for a better processor, just a suggestion.

Check the specification of both processors and look also at L2 Cache the more the better. If you haven't already got a mother board then go for AMD socket 939 and you can get an amd 64 bit 3000 for about £50. this processor will wipe the floor with any celeron or sempron chip and if you would like to over clock your chip this is a better prospect.
The older socket 478 celerons had a horrible reputation and having used semprons if you buy into this technology there is no upgrade path.

1600mhz processor external clock speed 200mhz I would recommend the AMD cheaper all round processor

amd is not as fast as intel, worth paying a couple of quid more for intel you'll regret buying amd, I did !
