It is a sleep disorder. It is a form of night terror, or nightmare that happens while you are actually awake. The common symptoms of witch scares, demons and alien visits in the night is the person being unable to move and feeling trapped and frozen while a beast or vision hovers over them. The person feels like they just woke up, but they are trapped in a dream, they are having a vision, perhaps caused by repressed fear and trauma. This is the same disorder as night terrors, but those people are able to flail and punch themselves out of the dream, usually with lots of thrashing movement and yelling. People operate on different wavelengths and can see different things. The visions people have of the figures above them are different according to the time period they live in, a hundred yeard ago, people saw witches, for the past forty years people have reported aliens. There are tons of things that look like UFO's and there probably are aliens out there but the abduction stories can't stand up against the very science that brought us the alien concept.

There are many hoaxes. People with mental problems see delusions. More normal people don't understand everything they see. My aunt and my brother said they saw many ghosts at her home. I saw something only once. I awoke at 3:00 AM or so. Across the room by a door was a woman floating with her head in a halo of light. Auntie or Brother would've covered their heads and told next morn about seeing another ghost. I arose and walked over to it. I saw that light was shining through a window in a manner I hadn't seen before. The lady's head was a calendar with scenery, and her body was patterns in the wallpaper. I am reasonably certain that all honest reports of weird things have such mundane explanations as this one. Someone must look closely, rather than fleeing and believing he saw something supernatural. I can tell of many more such incidents involving relatives who learned what "ghosts", etc. really were.

Most likely its a trick of the eye because of something that they don't see clearly. Or, someone could have done something, (like someone in an ape costume trying to pass off as bigfoot). Or they could be airlplanes, helicopters, and jets for the ufo theory. As for the loch ness monster, it could be a group of fish, a water snake, or a fishing line. Ghosts and aliens, and demonic possesions are a trick of the eye, like for instance something like that happening after they watched a horror movie, or something happened, like a family member died. Most likely thats because of the mood they're in and what they have gone through that day. But, like I said, its a trick of the mind and of the eye.

you also should have included participators in all forms of organised religion in your list , all these things fill a void in the human experience, some of which could provide a usefull function , other ellements not so usefull , but they do motivate or direct , and provide a stimulation , as you say the jurys out at this point , so best to keep an open mind , theres tons of interesting stuff about and no rule that you have to settle on one belief or the other.

Think of it this way, if you had a pack of matches in the 10th century, you would have been burned at the stake for witch craft. All these things you mentioned, could possible be explained in the future by science, but till then, it is easier to just say it don't exist...

myth is someone else's religion while relgion is someone else;s myth. you see what ever you are looking for. if you believe you accept what you see as that which you are trying to see, if you do nott believe then you try to rationalize what you saw into something else.
