I was on here a couple of days ago, and I had some questions about my transmission. Ok I have a 4 cylinder, 20002 mazda 626 with 72,000 miles. So my question is basically what should I do? I was told that I would need work done on my transmission ( i think he said he would rebuild it) and the estimate would be $1,400 dollars and up. I am a college student and would like to know if this is worth it. My transmission is from Ford and I heard that Ford makes awful transmissions. I don't know what to do. Is there a cheaper route that I can take. I have the money to pay, but is it worth it? Please help, and give me extra advice if you have any. THANKS!

If you have a 2002 the cars power train warranty should still be in effect.Go to a Mazda dealer and give them your Vin number and they will look it up in their files and tell you if warranty still applies. Your car isn't that old so even if you do need a new tranny, shop around but go to reliable tranny shops. If you don't know of any ask people from your local car clubs they are always willing to pass a few reliable names out.Fourteen hundred sounds pretty reasonable but get it in writing and with a warranty.Don't take a Mazda to a ford shop!!!!That's like asking for sour milk in your coffee.
Good luck

First check with Ford to see if there is an extended warranty. Sometimes if a lot of models have a problem Ford will extend the warranty. Next, what does the Ford dealer want to repair or replace it?

for a car that new, you should go get the tranny rebuilt. That is about the right price for that job, and it is much less expensive than getting a new car. 1400 bucks ever 73000 miles isnt that bad (still not the most reliable of trannies, but not pathetic)

just a heads up: i would buy an extended warrenty on your future cars for just this reason.

Rebuild it but remember. All carmakers fail to provide good cooling for transmissions. Add a aftermarket trans cooler, and sync. atf. you will never have problems again. With sync. atf you can change fluid and filter every 75,000 miles.
