There are litterally thousands of medern day prophets. Their predications have been almost universally untrue, or too vague to test.
Its important to remember that most predictions written in ancient texts were made after the events had happened. These texts were a way of understanding why an event happened, rather than a faithful recording of a prediction and its fullfillment. In the New Testament, Christ predicts all sorts of things, some that had allready happened when the texts were written (e.g. the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem) and some that didn't happen (such as the coming of the apocalypse whilst at least some of the disciples were still alive).

Read the Bible Code by Micheal Drosnin. A code was discovered in the bible which fortells many events, some happening today. Using a computer, you can search for keywords in the code and make, (or rather find) your own predictions. You can buy software for about £50 to research this yourself.
Anyway, Drosnin found the name of famous foreigner, encoded with 'Assasin Will Assassinate' and a date, while the guy was alive. (He even forewarned the person, but it did not stop the innevetable occuring.)
There are sites dedicated to research and findings. Lots of current events are foretold, including the twin towers, etc. (pity they weren't found till after the event.)
Many top scientists, code breakers and mathematicians, have tried to proove this wrong, but inadvertedly proove it right. It's an interesting read......could well open your eyes!

To EssexFriendly below - people have obviously tried other texts and found like you say, things encoded in moby dick and the like. Codes found in all books can be explained by chance. Moby Dick is a much longer text than the bible and is more likely to include quotes by chance. The Bible contains thousands of codes, which defy probability, more than any other book.
Join the Sir Isaac Newton Bible code society and join the debate. You'll see the facts that stand for it, for outweigh those that don't.
Regarding Drosnin, he did not find the code in the bible, he only published a book on it. His research and the science behind it are impeccable, his conclusions however are not. Don't just claim it's crap without looking into it. Some of the worlds brainiest people have studied this and still are today.
I know you've never used bible code software and are simply spurting rubbish you've read on the internet, from your answer. There's nothing to say you're not entitled to an opinion, but yours seems rather biased. You want to believe it's crap so proove it, don't just follow some crackpot's advise blindly.

Like Garrett B said, a prophet is one who speaks for God. The age of the prophets ended with the death of the last Disciple, St. John. Even then, prophecies were frequently conditional... If the people do not change their ways God will visit destruction upon the city...

A seer is one who professes to see the future. Their track record is very, very poor. Jean Dixon predicted the collapse of the Tower of the Americas (in San Antonio, TX). The last time I checked, it still stood.

I think that the reason why seers are notoriously inaccurate is for the same reason that true prophecies were frequently conditional. Things are subject to change and no one can see the future.

A prophet is one who speaks for gods. This may or may not involve predicting the future. Prophets, past and present, have a pathetically poor record of accuracy. Some use vague terms that can mean anything, and some predict after the fact. That covers it. Jesus himself said he'd return as king while some people hearing him still lived. Only Mormons say some of these people still live, and Jesus hasn't become king as his sermon said. Nostradamus is a hoary fraud often trotted out. His quatrains have been mistransalated to mean many things.

Yes there are, but, remember this: If you make a 100 predictions about things that might happen, knowing that such a thing COULD happen, and one or two come true, then you will most likely be called a prophet. I predict that within tomorrow a bomb will go off in Iraq killing people.... See what I mean. You can take current events, and follow all courses of action, and make predictions...

Choose wisely what you follow.....

Michael Drosnin is another old fraud on the same lines as nostradamus.
Rather than scientists proving his 'bible code' right, people have found that ANY large text - using the same rules as the bible code - can yield the same sorts of hits........they used a copy of 'Mody Dick' and (if I recall correctly) found a prediction of kennedy's assasination contained in THAT text.
The Bible code is Very, Very flawed......it's too much to go into in such a short space, but basically it is a pile of cr*p.....google 'Bible code drosnin debunked' and you'll see what i mean

I know I used to be able predict the lottery results in my dreams, but sadly I could never remember them when I woke up, its not until I see the numbers being drawn does it sparks my memory.

Well, yes, but future is fluid and constantly changing so it's possible to see several possible futures and it takes some skill to guess which one is the most probable one.
