ham rats are discusting and ugly

I've had a rat and a hamster. I like both. For hamsters I usually get Dwarf or Teddy Bears and for rats I get Fancy Rats...

Rats, because unlike some hamsters, they don't bite. They're also very friendly and social with people and animals... its cute watching them play with each other. They are the most intelligent small animals I have ever had (one even climbed into my purse, took out $140 from my bank envelope, and made a nest out of it). They are VERY clean, moreso than any other small animal, and they can also be trained. They do not carry diseases, not moreso than any other rodent. And they ARE cute! I gave one to my neice when she was 3 and she loved it, they are excellent with children, and they do not run away/are not very fast. They sit on your shoulders and like to wrestle with your hands (play wrestle) and make giggling squeaky sounds. I don't keep them anymore, because of the guilt I felt as they would hold onto the little bars of their rabbit cage wanting to come out and play all the time, I didn't have time for them lol. They knew they were imprisoned, thats the only down side.
Plus, the band ROX!

I have had both. Deffinatly rats. Hamsters maybe easier to care for but nowhere near as satisfying. Rats will interact with you, learn to love you and play. Also, they are not nocturnal so will can be help in the day without causing stress.

Hamsters.
Dont like the rat tails! and rats get a lot bigger than hamsters. but have had both and they make pretty good pets - i think hamsters seems a little shyer

Definitely a hamster... Although I've never owned a rat I'm sure they can't be as much fun as a hamster is.

I got a hamster oh and 2 Guinea pigs
If you have 2 rats or more together and one dies it gets eaten by the ones that are left alive. (it is true I saw it happen to a friends rats)

Rats are easier to pick up - you can grab any animal with a tail like that at the very base of the tail and lift them up.
Other than that theres no difference.
And only WILD rats are disgusting. Tame rats (from a pet shop etc) have the same cleanliness of any rodent of the same gender.
I would avoid males unless you intend to breed because the males stink. (the scent they spray stinks, to be more specific)
