No. What SHOULD be outlawed, however, is having so many criminals that have committed serious offenses going in and out of prisons as if they were on a short vacation. How about stiffer jail sentences where they are FORCED to learn a trade and work 8 hours a day to help pay for their keep and food, or stay in jail until they learn a trade? How about doing away with parole altogether and attaching a ten-year period whereupon if they commit another serious crime, they are returned to prison to repeat the previous jail sentence or do the time for the newer crime(s) committed, whichever is longer!??
Please read the 2nd Amendment... the purpose of an "armed militia" (armed populace) is to prevent tyranny in our government, and by the looks of things, that is not that far-fetched! Spying on Americans without a warrant? Hey, a former President was almost impeached for doing that and he was pardoned by his crony whom HE appointed as VP (because the former VP was forced to retire since he was brought up on criminal charges for tax evasion) and his crony "pardoned" him! What's to prevent this would-be tyrant from spying on his political opposition if he can get away with spying on Americans without a court order or a warrant?
The super-rich are the ones who are threatened. They do not want us to have the means to defend ourselves against a would-be tyrant. Hey, if the government is run for the super rich and powerful by those appointed by the super rich and powerful, and the government is supposed to defend out rights, liberties and freedoms... who defends US from the government? Hint: WE have to defend ourselves.
I am not promoting anarchy, I am promoting that our laws be respected by those elected to office. Guns in the hands of the public ensures our rights, liberties and freedoms.
The bleeding heart sissies do not live near where the majority of us live inwhere we must cross paths with criminals and deal with the damned predators almost on a daily basis... let them spend a week in a prison and let them migle with tehe criminal elements so that they will have a QUICK change of heart! One thing is for sure: they will have exercised their sphincter musles more in one week than in their entire life (or gotten them stretched).
Oppressive governments and communist countries quickly do away with the population's rights, freedoms and liberties... ESPECIALLY the right to bear arms... wonder why?
In other countries where guns are outlawed, the crime rates quickly double and triple or quadruple... like home invasions, robberies, burglaries, etc., .....do you wonder why? Outlawing guns will not prevent the criminal element from getting and using illegal guns!

No, crime would increase. And your "thoughts" to consider are not factual.
Not all states have an automatic 25 year sentences for crimes committed with a gun. And of those states that do, none have a mandatory solitary confinement (not solidarity confinemant.
Assets of convicted felons are not siezed, unless they are for drug related crimes, and that's a federal statute, although some states practice it.
And while in confinement you are not forced to get an education. To be sure it's encourged, but it's not enforced. And I know of no penal system that forces inmates to earn advanced college degrees. And again, I know of no laws that would force a released convict to give a portion of his salary back to "the system".
I'm not sure whether or not you meant to present those pie in the sky ideas as fact, but either way, they would not work. You simply can't force anyone to do something they don't want to do, or to succeed in an endeavor, they aren't smart enough to achieve.
And finally, if the second amendment is repealed, thus outlawing gun ownership, you've only achieved in taking guns away from honest citizens. Criminals would still be able to get their hands on illegal weapons. An armed society is always safer than an unarmed one.

Well I am just going to answer the first part of your question. I think that this countries crime rate would drop if everyone had guns and whatever type of gun they wanted. I will tell you why I believe this...If everyone new that everyone could possibly have a gun there wouldn't be road rage because they would be afraid of being shot, there wouldn't be burglaries because there could be someone inside with a bigger gun then the burglar. A perfect example of this would be a country like the Dominican republic. Everyone has guns but no one uses them. You show up at your hotel and there is a guard outside with a machine gun. You go to an ATM and there is a guard with a sawed off shotgun. Do you think anyone is going to hurass you at the atm. That is one of the most peicefull countries I have ever been to.

Being British I would have to say yes. I know it doesn't entirely stop gun crime - there will always be criminals and some who choose to use guns. But I shudder to think of the carnage that could unfold if those who already commit violent crime here had easier access to a gun or guns or even if there were just more guns around generally.
I should add that I grew up in the countryside many years ago ( when our gun laws were far more lax - we had a 12 bores and a doubled barrelled shotgun hanging from the beams of the cottage) and was taught to shoot by my father from the age of five.

A national ban of firearms would cause much more crime, as most criminals do not buy their firearms the legal way. It would also cause great violence and put this country in a police state, if you thought you have seen the worst an American person/s can do, think again, homegrow patriots/terrorists will come out of the woodwork if this happened. Your idea to teach prisoners is nothing new but forcing prisoners to study would be great but unrealistic. Only about 20% of the prisons population would agree to this, and we would be lucky if 50% of them would be able to be educated past high school without failing grades, also cost would be too high. I think public executions of violent criminals would help, and making prisons truly "hardtime" for all. No freedoms other than your health and mail, no tvs, drugs, smokes, radios, contact visits, not even a deck of cards. Force schooling to only the able and have no imate to inmate contact, schooling can be done in cells through a video feed. Leave guns alone and go after this failing government for not sentencing gun felons to long-terms in prison, and anyone that supplies a gun or sold it without proper ID and check should be given longer-term sentences. I have had trouble with the "background check" and had to go to great lenghts and costs to prove who I am, and why the Justice Depts. info is incorrect. They denied me for over 4 years and I had to fight it with lawyer, this is the FBI and they dont even know my correct name, DOB, SS#, or birthplace, and this is after I went to local police station to have the fingerprint card that the FBI sent me done, is that fu*king scary or what? Our government is at its stupidist right now and the last thing this country needs is a "Gun War", bad idea to ban guns, great idea for people convicted of gun crimes to be punished above and beyond.

yes-ish, i think crime rate would drop if guns were outlawed making them far less accessible to the general public. [although true, very bad crime would hardly change because in many places guns arent allowed yet gun crime still there.]
About the studying thing, if the education system was changed to allow anybody, and helping the poorer community and involving them in education more. This would keep them in the education system getting them better jobs hopefully not leading to gun crime.
conclusion:
if guns were outlawed then, yes there would be less use of them in general gun crime [small armed robbery etc.]
but the bigger gun crime would hardly falter, if falter at all in crime rate.
so....yes if would be useful for small gun crime, not for the wider problem.

No, but I think it would make life much safer (and easier) for the criminals. Making guns illegal only means they can't be legally bought or sold. It will never mean they can't be illegally bought and sold.
Guns are now completely illegal in England and Australia. Take a look at their crime statistics before you recommend this as a solution anywhere else.

If guns were outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
Judges balk a mandatory sentences now that are far less than what you are proposing. Sounds good but it will never be a reality especially with the bleeding hearts and do-gooders around.

No, because the people who then get guns would be arrested therefore raising the crime rate.

if by this country u are talking about the u.s.a. then no because our ansestors won our freedom with guns and the west was won with the gun,and the people of the u.s will not have our guns taken from us, as we need to protect our homes and ourselves from the criminals, when the government and the politician's have failed us.
