It involves your brain's perception of time when doing different activities. If it is indisposed (for example, busy having fun) then it doesn't focus on lengths of time. This is much like the old saying, "a watched pot never boils." It takes the same time, but if you're thinking about it then it will seem to take longer.

It's all Relative(Einstein's Theory) to your perception, if you sat on a hot stove then 30 seconds would feel like 1 hour, when you are having fun 2 hours feels like 30 seconds, that the way things are.!!!

i dont know - why doesnt it swim instead

i understand the concept that when u r enjoying urself time goes really fast, but where does the flying bit come from

maybe because if u travelled somewhere it is quicker to go by plane (fly) then by anyother form - e.g boat (swim)

Actually it has to do with Einstein's Theory of Relativity, einstein deduced that there was no general concept of 'Time' , It is diffirent for each observer and unique to them. Perhaps when our thoughts are focused on that of joy and pleasure we are less aware of aspects of our environment that remind us that time is passing.

You are distracted by its passage. I saw somewhere that something had to be absorbing to be enjoyable, and if you are absorbed you are not watching the clock and being bored. You know the expression "a watched kettle never boils".
