I studied both anthropology and sociology and am still studying humans, but I've come to the conclusion that, not only are we evolutions's biggest mistake (unless some aliens put us here as a lame joke!), but that we'll be the death of our own species...and eventually the planet if human don't die out soon enough! IMO, no other species has done as much damage and lives lives as sick and disgusting as ours!

Hey! I didn't ask if I wanted humans obliterated! I LIKE this world...mistake or no! We've got scenery, redecorating, Happy Meals, Manchester-bloody-United! I just think we botched it, whether due to our bloody stupid genes, which give us a WHALE of a superiority complex (hand-axes? Big deal!!!), or the poncey buggers who put us here as a joke!
Read "Venus on The Half Shell" (P. Jose Farmer, posing as Vonnegut/Kilgore Trout) for a better take than I can give you).
So we "bested nature"? Think so? Then why did most of the Gulf Coast get wiped out during Katrina? GLOBAL WARMING, kiddies! Listen to Ms. Gore. Has a point.
All I'm saying is...we've been "Out of Africa" 5, maybe 9 million pathetic years and all we've done to this planet is screw it up!
You can't watch your Tivo when 90% of the planet's underwater...y'know?

P.S. - "Darthdad's" response is so lame, it shows how infantile humans can be, though they are able to use the Interntet!
Q for Darth: In which part of the world do anthropologists generally agree homonids evolved?
(Name and place, you moron!)

I realized, as did some others, that the word "mistake" imples intent (of a sentient being, etc.)...how about the word, "glitch"? "Failed mutataion"? Come on...YOU all know what I mean...well, ALMOST all of you.

To: father of the forbidden rules: READ THE G.D. POST!!! DId I say the world was "ending"? No. It will go on without us. It will PROBABLY only end for US...and by the time that happens, unless the W.B. pulls some lame stunt, we'll all be fossil fuel! THINK, before you reply!

Boy, are some you guys full of yourselves as humans! Grouchy bato: It's precisely BECAUSE we've taken over the planet that we will fail as a species. akaDarthDad: go back to Kindergarten with enord.
helen: Query: if we're gods and miracles, why can't we weed out MISTAKES like the above 2 "Humans"? Shouldn't we all be perfect in a perfect world?

I feel sorry for you. Maybe instead of whining about it you could try to make it better. You don't help the situation at all.

I think if you look at our progress as sick and disgusting than you may have a hardlined unshakable opinion of what humans have done in this world.
That's what I have to address here. Since you have a human mind, you need to cure the very symptom which you have identified.
But never mind. About what humanity has accomplished in our recorded history: we have dominated. When countries have won wars, normally the winner would instill their laws, rules, and regulations according to their individual platforms. We are the winners of the war against the rest of the animal kingdom. We set the rules since we have higher capabilities of domination... in other words humans rule the world.
How you view the dominant power (winner of the war) is contingent upon how that particular leader maintains it's constituents.
The only way we can measure the iniquity of the human race is to view how animals are treated as a whole around the world.
Yes there are instances of cruelty to animals and unjustices commited against some of those species that deserve better, but we are at least cognizant of these events. Could you imagine a race of people that just decided not to have philanthropic organizations, animal preservation movements, or the like? We may be a race that is overbearing in the space alloted to us from planet Earth, but we are at least working with what we've got.
Peace.

Humans are unique in the history of evolution. We are the first species to our knowledge that has discovered how to use complex tools. We are the first species that we know of that has realized our own mortality. We are the only species that seeks to understand the universe, beyond what is needed for survival. We may not be perfect, but I think that humanity has something to add to the history of evolution and life on Earth so no, I don't think humans are a mistake.

You make many good points. But I don't see mistakes in this universe, I see effect. I see cost. Like the merovingian. It's simply an effect of a cause. We didn't ask to be created. We didn't ask for specialized knowledge. We received it from the beginning. We did what we were meant to with our knowledge, Could you think it'd be any other way? Science has theories of parallel universes, in which variables and differences are not so different afterall. Perhaps on some other aspect of this universe, we're actually in utopia. Perhaps when we die, we'll simply go to one of many other universes. Perhaps it'll be better than this one. We're all destined for an end one day. Let's try to make the best of what we have while we're here.

Are humans a huge mistake?
Good question.
MAN is intelligent, and never a mistake, able to dominate over other species, due to a superior brain. They can predict most events before they come, and get prepared to face anything.
HOWEVER
HUMANITY itself is unintelligent, stupid and use a very primitive form of teamwork, very non co-operative, and do not consider living in harmony with nature and their fellow man as a top priority.
Man in a larger, unorganized group, humanity, is a big mistake.
Hope this text was interesting!

this wasn't a mistake. this grew to alter right into a selection you made on your very own motives. Calling it some thing else doesn' t replace it. you're untrue. Now you're making excuses so which you do now no longer would desire to deal the top result out of your decision. by way of reality he hasn't had the best adventure to drop you, you're able to comprehend that your decision is a sturdy indicator that considerable replace has have been given right here approximately on your dating. How long it is been present day technique this modification is a question. does not rather count selection. the fellow made is genuine and you will desire to stand it.

YOU have studied anthropology and sociology (mastering neither I'd wager) and have decreed that the human species is not fit to exist.
Yet evolution has been doing its job relentlessly for billions of years and has yet to pass that kind of judgement.
What if we are the death of our own species? Would not be the first, would not be the last, you like so many suffer from an inflated sense of importance.
By posting your philosophical question under "Anthropology" you only exagerate your ingorance for all to see.

We are a mistake, of course. Natural selection takes whatever works at the moment and kills off everything else. We were just good enough at the time.
History agrees with your pessimistic view. We have made a mess of things and continue to do so. I am hoping that we will muddle through and science will find a way to make things better.

"Humans are a huge mistake." causes a vicious cycle. Making a mistake is a human trait. Rocks don't make mistakes. Planets don't. Trees don't. Even dogs don't; they don't understand the English word "mistake". So if humans are a mistake, then some human created humans, which begs the question of when the first human was created.

There will be no peace on this earth until the infestation known as the human race is eradicated. People, that is a fact. Read history.
I won't even go into the environmental impact caused by mankind.

Humans are not just a huge mistake. We are at the top of the evolutionary ladder. You are correct in assuming that we will be the death of our own species, though. I guess its the other side of the double edged sword, we are so complex and advanced, but that will be our downfall.
