I have to choose a person who contributed to the computer industry in one form or another, Bill Gates is out, but I can choose someone from software or hardware end of things. Thanks for your suggestions.

Wow, lots to pick from.

I like Joe Juran. He is the Quality guy that General McAurther sent to Japan. Hardware or Software - the quality is good because of Dr. Juran.

80 percent of the bugs are inserted in 20 percent of the process. 80 percent of the process is designed to remove 20 percent of the bugs. The paredo analysis (80/20) rule. Great stuff. Also, testing, analysis, priority, etc.
