My son bought me one for my birthday. Quite frankly that thing makes me very nervous.

My husband ripped an awful gash in his thigh, barely missing the family jewels, when his saw rebounded. But people use them all the time. Take care and use common sense.* And wear, not just safety goggles, but leather chaps.

I used one myself for a long time but finally left it to the menfolk because I was just too spleeny about all the freak accidents I'd heard of. Don't mean to discourage you.

* Don't lift it above your head. Don't use it when you're tired. Don't go off in the woods with it alone.

If it makes you so nervous...start off cutting small things....or don't use it at all. If you use it, wear safety goggles.

My uncle had a very bad experience with a chain saw on his farm. He was cutting up a log and the chainsaw went through the log, hit some barbed wire and bounced back at him. It was not pretty...but he survived.

just wanted to be honest

They can be dangerous but start by just starting it the first day and get use to how it feels. The second day cut something small. Then keep working your way up. Be sure and read all the instructions. Happy Birthday!!
