Since the x-intercept is 24, that is the same as the point (24,0). To find the equation of the line, use the point-slope form: y - y1 = m(x - x1) where m is the slope and (x1, y1) is a point on the line. In your case you get

y - 0 = 1/4*(x - 24) or y = 1/4*(x - 24)
Multiply throught by 4 to get
4y = x - 24
Now to put the equation in slope-intercept form, divide by 4. This gives you
y = (1/4)x - 6 [slope-intercept form]

To put the equation in standard form you need to move the x term to the left side with the y term. Standard form looks like Ax + By = C. Your problem would come out
-x + 4y = 24 or x - 4y = -24 [standard form]

Point-slope form is above, i.e. y = 1/4(x - 24)

Now, find another problem and try it for yourself or you will never learn it.

The answer is 6 that would meen that the slope in a span of 24 feet should have a run off slope of 6 inches at the arrival of 24 feet. That's the way I read blue prints.

slope=.25
passes through 24,0
y=1/4(x-24) point slope form
4y=x-24
y=1/4x-6 slope intercept form
x-4y-24=0 standard form

The standard equation for a straight line is y = mx + b. where m = slope and b = y intercept (the point at which the line crosses the y axis).

In your case y = 0.25x + 24

y=.25x-6

use y=.25x+b
y=0 x=24 and solve for b
