How do you get the law to work on your side

In my friends divorce settlement she was to get certain things (like a $15,ooo one time payment and Health coverage benefits which her husband simply doesn't pay, she hired 3 different lawyers who took the little money she has left, one said he couldn't take her case afterall sev months later shile sitting with all her papers and kept her money, the next sent her private matters to her ex's attorneys office for them to see. Meanwhile her financial accountant (who turns out to be a drug addict and dealer) has raped her bank account of 100,000 dollars, the bank acknowledged it as fraud and money laundering but isn't taking any action. Where does she go with this mess?!! She has no $ left for a lawyer, the police can't do anything, who actually does something in this country if there is grand larson, hwere does one go?

If you believe your attorney violated the codes of professional conduct, or acted illegally or unethically, then you can file a complaint with the state bar or state supreme court's ethics board.

From what you said, there are three issues. The first is what the bank did, and unless you can convince the Attorney General or District Attorney to file criminal charges, that is something that must be resolved in civil court, which means a lawsuit, which means an attorney if you want any chance of winning.

The other is the communication between current and former attorneys, which is often necessary as part of the substitution of counsel. Both attorneys are still bound by duty of confidentiality.

{INSERT} Or by "ex's attorney" if you mean the opposing attorney for the ex-spouse, then Chris is correct. That's called Discovery.

Finally, you seem upset because the case isn't over and you ran out of money. Look at it by analogy. If you take your car to the mechanic, and are told five things need fixing, but you can only pay for three of them... should the mechanic do the other two for free? Lawyers provide a service, and while many work based on the promise of future payment, some want to be paid as they go. Just like doctors and plumbers and mechanics. That's the nature of any profession.

People get arrested all the time for money laundering and fraud, why wouldn't the police pursue that end of it, especially that much money? That's a crime, report it to the police and take all the records to prove it. Then contact the IRS and report the accountant, they'll track a nickel to the ends of the earth.

Sending documents to the opposing attorney is both legal and required as part of a case, called discovery. She should have been able to see his financial documentation as well.

If she didn't get what was stipulated in the divorce settlement she can contact the court and ask for the procedure for a hearing to bring him in and get what she is entitled to. With a little research and some help from the judge's office she can do that herself.

Okay, I'll break this out point by point. First, with regard to her attorney sending information to husbands attorney, he can do this it's called "DISCOVERY" and in almost any instance, nothing is too privelaged to be communicated to them.

Next, if your friend has a complaint against the attorney, she can do both of these. 1.) Contact the State Bar. If you need help contacting them, email me. 2.) Hire a malpractice attorney to sue former attorney. They work on commission and won't charge your friend if they don't win. Wait for the State Bar to finish their investigation first. Then contact them and get a copy of your file from them. They will have professional evidence prepared by the best professionals that you can use in your civil malpractice case.

Next, with regard to the financial accountant, you need to contact all of the banks where the money was. Already done that? Contact your local manager of FDIC, google it, and you;ll get more direction.
