it depends if the school is on the semester system or the quarter system.

if it's on the semester system, 4 classes counts for full time, 5 classes is more typical to graduate in 4 years, and some people take 6 classes.

It depends on the policy of the school - many schools require you to get approval if you want to take more than 6 classes in a sememster. (this is assuming that the classes are 3 credit hours, which is standard. Science classes with a lab are usually 4 credit hours.)

Most students usually take 5 courses at once. THis would be a normal work load.

One semester I took 6 because one only met once a month.

If you are thinking of taking more than 5 speak to one of the guidance conselors at your school. They can let you know the workload for certian classes.

But... I beleive that you can take up to 6 or 7 classes at some schools. Not all will let you do this though because its not good for stress or your grades. You don't want to overload yourself.

Depends on the person. My supervisor's son took 24 credits, he was still bored and considered the classes too easy. I know of a woman who finished a 4 year degree in 1 year; she did nothing but go to class, do homework and sleep. Her husband ran the family business, took care of the kids, did all of the shopping and did all of the housework.
So, as long as you get great grades - you should be able to take as many classes as you can handle.

Most colleges have a maximum amount of credits that you can sign up for like 15 or something. You can sometimes get a waiver from that maximum by your counselor or chair of your department.
Be careful though because dropping classes because you can't do it all, can be very expensive.
General rule of thumb don't take more than 4 classes.

It will depend on your school, your "year" (freshman, sophomore, etc.) and your major. For example, when I was a freshman, studio art majors could only take 14 hours (I guess because it was assumed they had to spend a lot of time in the studio), but engineering majors could take up to 21 hours (so they could graduate in four years).

No matter what limitations your school has, I'd recommend not going overboard your first semester; it's easier to maintain a good GPA than to raise a bad one.

That depends on the college, but the typical is 18 credits per semester. I am taking 21 next semester to finish up, but most schools won't let you do that unless you have the GPA and they know you can handle it and usually you have to get written permission from the Dean to do so.

Whatever you can handle. I took an overload but had to get permission first. My biggest approved overload was 24 hours. Got a 4-year degree in 3 years because of it (including summers). Why? Because my scholarship was time-limiting and would pay for it so long as my grades remained good.

Most people take five. Bright people sometimes take six. I met a guy related to Einstein at my school and he was taking ten!
