could the attorneys be doing this for some ulterior motive, may be working together to settle the case or upset the clients into early settlement?

There are many reasons why a case would get delayed. Your attorney could just be busy. Either your attorney or their attorney might feel there is some benefit to delaying (collect more evidence, wait for a related case to be resolved, etc). They might be trying to get a better judge. And so on...

I was involved in a case where the defendants were surprised at how good our case was during settlement negotiations. They asked for time to go back to their clients to warn them going to trial would be a mistake and suggest a better settlement offer. It was agonizing to have to wait longer, but we likely did better in the end.

The time-table is set by the court, not by the attorneys. So, if it keeps getting delayed, it's because the judge finds a valid reason for it.

And while the attorneys may negotiate towards a settlement, only the actual parties can agree to any proposed settlement.

The attorneys working together against you?...Probably not. The defense attorney keep delaying hoping you'll get fed up & settle or drop the case?....Yes & most likely.

One side or the other often asks to get cases continued and delayed to try and get the other side broke, or needing to settle more. it is a commom ploy used. I have seen workers comp cases take over 10 years to get to trial.

it's just a way of forcing the plaintiff to rush into an immature decision. it's the same as u lend a skirt to ur girlfriend and when it's time for her to give it back she keeps finding reasons not to return it to u because she wants to keep the skirt for herself and make u decide to forget about it. think of it as the same thing as well.

99.9% of the time, it is the Court's calendar congestion that causes the delays.

Further, personally speaking, attorney's worry about their client's first, and their relationships with other attorney's last.

More than likely. Don't let them intimidate you.

Of course they are dragging it out that is their job. To try and wear you down. Keep doing your deal don't let them win with their delay tactics
