Yes. Washer type, tumble vs spin/agitate. Tumble much better. Cold water washing saves on heating bill. Better features to control cycles. Dryers have less heat loss and quicker drying times.

I can't truly answer this but wanted to add my two cents,,,and a pair of socks if you have a wash load going anyway.

I'm sure there is always "NEW & IMPROVED",,, But what I find so often in this day and age is that we want TRENDY, even in our minor and major appliances.

I suspect that even an old wringer type can get clothes clean, and seemed to be adequate at one time. I do laundry because I must, not because I enjoy it, or the appliances designed to clean my clothing. That said however, this past weekend I happened to be looking at a Sunday Newspaper Filler Flyer, and spotted a Laundry SET. It didn't seem they were a hugely popular, recognizable brand name. Both were front load, both seemed more slim that what is usual,,, and BOTH were Wild Cherry Red. If I was gonna buy laundry appliances, and had the $2000, I might be enticed?

It is a sad fact that many poor people buy the basic cheap models
(and on credit too) which, over the lifetime of the machine costs them more wnen the bills are paid, than a more expensive but energy-efficient machine.
If you've got the cash, use it and invest in efficient machinery.

You better believe it. Look for the Energy Star listing on them when shopping, that will help you out better. Better to invest the money in a high quality product in the beginning, than maybe 5 years down the road either have to repair it or replace it; which can wind up costing more in the long run not only with those expenses, but also in energy usage.
