A birthday box probably has enough air moving through it where as the chicken will probably live, not suffocate. But, the chicken may actually cease to live due to other factors other than suffocation. It may die of a massive heart attack due to the stresses you would have put it in, or it might die of starvation (if in there long enough), etc.

However, I think the whole question is moot becuase this is a sick and senseless thing you're proposing. Even though I don't find it funny, I hope that this is just a joke question. If you're going to kill a chicken, I hope that it is done humanely and for the purpose of becoming food for humans. Otherwise, I stick to the notion that you are a sick, sick individual.

Good day to you sir! and Good luck!

chicken reads post and asks same question replacing the "chicken" word with the donkey's relative
*note see example below
~How long will it take for a ___ to suffocate inside a birthday box with a red ribbon?
Much longer than it would take them to cross the street and call the ASPCA maybe O_-

The chicken won't suffocate if you put breathing holes in the box.
