After the fact, after the makeup, after the "I'm sorry I said that"s. A year later I still cannot recover from some things said in the past. The issue is totally talked out. I hate to keep bringing it up (and have been keeping my mouth shut). Yet the words reverberate through my head, often.

HOW DO I GET OVER IT?????

if you want it to work you forgive the person who said the words, and you mean it.

You will take it to your grave. If you truly love the person who did this thing, you get on with your lives. You continue to hurt, but you also continue to try to make life better for both of you. That old adage of "forgive and forget" is just not possible. Concentrate on the good in the relationship and gradually the hurt gets put aside, but its always there for you to bring to the surface if you want to. Its called "keep on Keeping on".

It is ok not to forget but you must put that in the past if you have choose to continue and move on in the relationship. Something must still bring these thoughts up... try and find out what that is...

People get over what is said but they never forget how you made them feel. The problem is you are having a problem with the demoralization that is still in your psyche from the past.
