Just want to know the different definitions that people have on reasoning. In addition, why do you think reasoning is important?

The process of drawing of inferences or conclusions from known or assumed facts and/or concrete evidence; use of reasoning through the use of proofs or reasons resulting from this act which is considered rational, logial, inductive and analytical and judisious thinking.

Being reasonable, having reasons not mere causes, and not rationalizing. People have many causes, Zionism, Islam, Patriotism for which they do unreasonable things. They then rationalize this as 'duty', 'honor', 'faith'. Better think it through and not blow up the world for a cause.

Reasoning is the process of forming conclusions from data.

Reasoning is important because we use those conclusions to make decisions to find happiness.

Mexican stand off. I think reasoning is important because there are yella belly, lilly livered, cow pies that cheat at cards.

Try to find a solution for a problem for which different people have different opinions about and hence trying to get everyones opinion and try to find a solution that is satisfactory to all

If you're reasoning with another person, you're trying to influence them with your thoughts & ideas. If you're tryint to "reason" with yourself to figure something out or answer an internal question, you are trying to influence yourself by trying to figure out how you should think about something. trouble is, "Common sense" is not always good sense, & reasoning internally is a closed loop unless U hook into cosmic/god energy

Thinking in a logical manner. It leads to consistent behavior, and usually leads to better behavior.

thinking that is coherent and logical.
i think it's important so we can try to understand things better.
it's a teaching tool.
