1: you can't genetically engineer a virus. A virus has no genes.
2: A virus wouldn't kill a tobacco plant. What you need is a good root fungus. That's what caused the great potato famine, made the American Chestnut tree so rare, and what might kill off the commercially available banana subspecies.
3: If it can be traced to you, you could spend a lot of time behind bars. Commercial sabotage isn't a slap on the wrist. Why not work on some educational materials instead.

Why would you want to do that? Tobacco goes into cigarettes and cigarettes is a form of population control.... think about it... Why else would something so harmful to the body be legal almost everywhere?
Actually, I smoke and I would miss tobacco... but I am trying to quit now since I read this report on the internet... it really sucks and is really hard for me to quit... I have been smoking for 12 years.
The report I read said that cigarette companies have added more nicotine (10% more) ever since they started getting sued all time and price of cigarettes went up... So it would be harder for people to quit smoking.
"The level of nicotine found in U.S. cigarettes has risen about 10 percent in the past six years, making it harder to quit and easier to get hooked, according to a new report released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Department of Health."
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=2371123&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312
"The study found the three most popular cigarette brands with young smokers — Marlboro, Newport and Camel — delivered significantly more nicotine than they did six years ago. Nicotine consumed in Kool, a popular menthol brand, rose 20 percent, for example."

And in truth, it is not the tobacco that is harmful, it is the other stuff in cigarettes that is harmful... like tar and chemicals/toxins.
"Over 4000 chemical compounds are created by burning a cigarette, many of which are toxic and/or carcinogenic."
For a list of those chemicals, go to this website...

First determine which gene sequence you want to target, it has to be common to all tobacco plants, but not found anywhere else in nature. Do this and then get back to me.That's the basis of genetic warfare, so you might also get the government's interest.

You don't need to, just use Tobacco Mosaic Virus.
Oh, it also kills tomatoes because tobacco and tomato are closely related.
