I think political correctness is an awful term that has a loaded meaning. Some people now think it means "I have a right to not be offended by anything". There is no such right. People who make inaccurate generalised statements are rightly criticised. On the other hand, MediaWatch can go shove their heads where the sun don't shine and TURN OFF THE TV if they don't like a programme.
Human rights is another issue altogether. This is always a balance - it is not possible to have too many rights, but the balance of these rights can be off. A right for one person is always an obligation for another, but restrictions on rights are obligations on everyone.
Do-gooders is another loaded term, suggesting they are by definition not acceptable, and inevitably we have "too many". In reality, it matters WHAT they are trying to do good, and IF they achieve these goals.
It's hard to pin down here, unless you bring up specific examples of where you think wrong decisions are being made.
EDIT:
Blackouts have NOT been renamed brownouts:
" A blackout is a complete interruption of power in a given service area. ... A brownout is a partial, temporary reduction in system voltage or total system capacity. "
In any case, Asians would theoretically be offended by the term "brown" in "brownout", if people actually were offended by these things, which they aren't.

Yes political correctness is going to the extreme, just look at the Tom and Jerry cartoons and the editing that is going on with them. They are classic cartoons are we going to edit everything from the past so some politically correct nut can be happy, where do you stop.? Yes I know they show violence and smoking, the violence is no worse than Disney cartoons from the past or even the Simpson's now,
Also human rights a number of times crimes have been committed by some sick ba****d especially crimes against children and the courts are more concerned with the human rights of the criminal than the victim. That is wrong...
right off the soapbox for a while to calm down lol

There can never be too many "do-gooders" in any country. I think the UK is really one of the best countries in the world, because they still care about all their residents. It may not seem right to you, as an individual. But I, as an American who has lived here for the last 20 years, see it as proof that there are still good people in the world, that there are still people who care about human decency and all the rest. Political correctness does sometimes push the limits of sanity, but I'd far rather see it pushed in that direction than the other.

Yes, I do believe the UK has gone OTT on Human Rights and PC. Like another answer said, it's a blackboard because it is coloured black. I have a colleague who has dark brown skin, and is not offended by the term black, same as I am not offended by being called white, although I suppose the PC term is Caucasian. On human rights, there seems to be more consideration for offender rather than the victim in crime for example. We are expected to cosset the prisoners just in case we offend their dignity. I won't go on any more, our government has a lot to answer for.

What's a do-gooder. Is being a do-badder anything to shout about?
On the subject of PC it's right to respect others but there will always be stupidity and people wanting to control others on all sides of the political spectrum. In the 1950s in Britain it was Watch Commitees and Moral Rearmament but no-one called it PC then when it came from the right.
Also, if PC is soooo bad then why do people like Saint a few answers down have to lie spout rubbish like Black Out now being referred to as Brown Out. They are two separate things. Get a life!

They've gone over the edge..... The pc brigade have gone way too far. Eg We can't have a Christmas fair, its a winter fair, cos it will upset other religions... What is the national religion of this country, its the church of england - Christian... Kids can't play conkersor throw paper airoplanes, childhood passtimes, not even allowed to pin on a poppy incase you prick the peron buying it, everyone is now scared of doing anything cos you can get your arsed sued off. Do gooders have too much to answer for and most of it not good.

No! Language is a powerful tool which is used for thinking and therefore can influence our thoughts and ideas. In this way, it can be subversive and used to oppress minorities.
For example, if we always use the word. "he", when we mean men and women, or we always put the word men, before the word women; then it can give the idea that men are more important than women, which is a subversive idea.
There is also nothing wrong with people doing genuinely good deeds.
Human rights are important and need fighting for, otherwise, because of the fallibility of human nature (and our cruelty), they would not be achieved.
I hope this helps:>)

Hi there,
This is a good link for downloading Blood 2 The Chosen for free: http://bit.ly/1pnRNii
it's completely free and it's very fast to install
This game is based on the 'Shoot first, ask questions later' philosophy. How you play it depends on the character that you choose, as each of them has different abilities and magic powers.
Give it a try.

Oh yes. I live in Spain and can see what is happening as an 'outsider'. I have grandchildren at school and a lot of the things that were perfectly normal for us to say I get tutted at for saying. And who does it benefit? Not ordinary people who walk on tiptoe in case they offend anyone without even knowing it. Methinks it is all a load of bunkam. Jobs for the boys etc. Thinking of more rubbish to hurl about.
