The song "I've Been Everywhere" was written by Geoff Mack in 1959 and made popular by the singer Lucky Starr in 1962. It listed Australian towns.
It was later adapted for North American (primarily United States) place names by Mack. The song, this version, was a number 1 hit in Country Music in November 1962 in the United States for the recording artist Hank Snow.
However, the 1996 Johnny Cash version is the one used in the Choice Hotels advertisements in the US.

The song was written by Geoff Mack and was originally sand by Lucky Starr in the 60's. The commercial you saw it in was the Choice Hotels commercial (Clarion, Comfort Inn ect).
The Choice Hotels version was the Johnny Cash version. Check it out on Wikipedia,

I have looked on www.amazon.co.uk for you and there are a number of artists that sing the song that you told. Type the song into the search box of the website and you should be on your way to the answer that you are looking for.
Hope this helps.

Sorry no clue here, I can't even think of the song right now, but when I last looked to find out who sang something I sent an email to my local radio station and had my answer in no time. Good luck.

Just because it's not on iTunes, doesn't mean that Johnny Cash didn't record it.
