is it a gold fish my gold fish are gold and black and they acted the same way I took a water sample to the pet store they said there was to much ammonia in the water.gold fish are dirty fish they produce lots of ammonia they told me to empty 3 gallons and put in 3 gallons if you have chlorine in your water you need to buy some chlorine remover its cheap and you can get it at walmart anyways do that about once a day for 3 or 4 days and clean their filter with water from the tank not tap water it washes away the good bacteria the fish need then add half a teaspoon of baking soda it will fix the pH in the water then your fish should get back to normal I had the same thing happen I did everything they said and my fish are back to normal.good luck.

Well the truth is it prolly isnt hiding behind that rock, sometimes the temperature gets too cold and suddenly changes and that doesn't always shock all the fish in the tank. but I have never heard of a fish changing colors, but usually when a fish stays at the bottom of the tank it could mean " to the toilet bowl for u : ( "

ps: member to keep ur tank klean

Take out the sick fish and put him in a different fish tank with fresh water and a filter.

yeah he's probably gunna go, but a friend of mine had 2 one that latterly floated on it back on the top and did this for years the other sank to the bottom and came out only to eat.

could be pregnant, could be sick, could be dying, could be weird.

i'd suggest getting one of those floating tank infirmaries, seclude it from the others for a couple of days and see how it does.

if it looks like it's going to die, please do no flush your fish. it is much more humane to freeze them. they die much quicker.

(have you tested the ph in your tank?)

why don't you take it to the vet, I have 2 fishes and one of them started to stay at the bottom the whole time, it turns out it had babies!
