What is the difference between a lip or labret piercing? I'm getting one of them soon, but I don't know which is which. Also, what would you suggest?

Technically they're the same thing. If you go to a studio and ask for a labret, they will usually pierce it a bit lower than if you ask for a lip piercing. Both can cause problems with teeth and gums, no matter what type of jewelry you wear, but the softer the material, the better. There are many PTFE/Tygon studs to choose from, and these will help minimize damage.

You can also get a vertical labret, it goes vertically through your lip, avoiding contact with teeth and gums. A little more painfull, but very attractive piercing

The labret is a piercing in the dimple area just under the bottom lip. The initial piercing is usually made with a special stud jewelry that has a flat back. The flat part goes inside the mouth and can sometimes rub against the gums and teeth. Labrets have been known to cause problems with the gums, but if the piercing is done correctly this doesn't have to be the case. A labret piercing can have the stud jewelry or a captive bead ring. A labret piercing is determined by the location.

A labret piercing is through the skin below the bottom lip. And a lip piercing, well, that's self-explanatory.

Labret is a piercing below your bottom lip. I find either to be a distasteful display but to each their own.

I've got no idea but I wouldn't get one. I'm a chicken.
