Aithre (AY thra), also known as Theia, was one of the Titans, and was the Greek goddess of sight and of bright blue skies. By extension, she also was known as the one who endowed gemstones with their sparkle. She was married to the god of light, Hyperion, and her children were other incarnations of light; she was therefore thought of as the mother of all sources of light in the world.

Aithre (Her name is pronounced ETH - ree) is also the titan Theia. THEIA was the Titan goddess of sight (thea) and shining light of the clear blue sky (aithre). She was also, by extension, the goddess who endowed gold, silver and gems with their brilliance and intrinsic value.
Theia was married to Hyperion, the Titan-god of light, and bore him three bright children Helios (the Sun), Eos (the Dawn), and Selene (the Moon).
The ancient Greeks believed that the eyes emitted a beam of light, much like a lamp, which allowed one to see whatever it fell upon. Hence Theia the mother of sight, was also the mother of light-beaming sun, moon and dawn.

Theia, like her sisters Themis, Dione and Phoibe, may also have been regarded as a prophetic goddess of divination. Her name Theia is connected with the word theiazô, to divine or prophesize.

She also appears to be a female aspect of the Protogenos Aither, the bright upper air, or shining blue sky.
