We have a Roomba. It does work, but it has a lot of trouble climbing up the edge of an area rug. So if you have bare floors and rugs, you might have a problem. Also, it has a very small space for the dirt and fuzz that gets picked up. And it does a better job if the room isn't crowded with furniture. Like, if you let it loose in your didning room, you'll be better off if you take the chairs out of there or put them on tom of the table.
Our Roomba just sits in the closet, unused. But it was fun to watch the first couple of times.

My wife bought our Roomba Scheduler for $258. I was a total skeptic even so that she bought it when I was out of town. I'm totally sold, it vacuums my three Siberian Huskies dog hair with no problems. When you watch it is very smart, does my carpet each day at 4:00pm. You just empty it each day and it keeps the carpet looking ready for company. Even does the kitchen tile floor where the dog food crumbs gather.

Here are some ebay listings. I can't vouch for their "goodness".
