i dont think you understand! you must have 100 animals and you must have from all of them. you cannot spend more or less than £500

Hi Pink!
Good question...
I would believe the people who say there are lots of answers to this problem if they had actually posted one of them!
After half an hour with a pen and paper, I reckon it's impossible if you have to spend the whole £500.
So I'd go to the pub with the bloke above and his £20.
Actually, thinking about it, if you buy:
1 horse = 50
39 cows = 390
60 lambs = 60
100 animals = 500 quid
Woohoo!
Got any more?
Cheers,

hello i think i am the first to get it heres the awnser
60 Lambs at £1 each = £60
39 Cows at £10 each = £390
1 Horse at £50 each = £50
60 Lambs + 39 Cows +1 Horse = 100 Animals
£60 + £390 +£50 = £500

Personally I'd stick with lambs... horses don't make profit, cows take a lot of work, and lambs are much easier... However in the maths homework side there are loads of answers. You can get 500 lambs or 50 cows or 10 horses or mix and match etc etc.

60 lambs, 39 cows and 1 horse.
Let x be number of lambs, y be number of cows and z be number of horses.
x + 10y + 50z = 500
x + y + z = 100 => x = 100 - y - z
So,
(100 - y - z) + 10y + 50z = 500
100 + 9y + 49z = 500
9y + 49z = 400
The only combination of y and z that are whole numebers is:
y = 39 and z = 1
So x = 100 - 39 - 1 = 60
