"As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

Does this sound like a statement from a leader, a psychopath, or someone who is avoiding a question?

Brian, it's intelligent only to trailer trash morons like yourself who have yet to get their GED's.

I've seen better philosophy, not too mention foriegn policy, on bathroom walls.

It is definitly a quote from a Republican, no mistake about it. This is their way of governing.

It wasa very intelligent response. Unfortunately the left, with its profound lack of intellect, failed to grasp the meaning of what he said.

Let me break it down for you:

Known Knowns: things we know that we KNOW to be true. Example: That Iran is pursuing a nuclear program.

Known Unknowns: Things we don't know, but we know we don't know them, so we pursue that information.
Example: How far along Iran's nuclear program is.

Unknown Unknowns: These are things we don't know, but don't even know that we don't know them.
Example: If Iran were developing a space program based on a revolutionary new gravitic propulsion system. Something we don't know, and have absolutely no idea that we don't know.

See? Man, I'd hate to be a leftist democrat and have a perpetual feeling of intellectual inadequacy.

Sounds like someone who is thinking about the future and may be a pioneer in discovering things we never knew existed. I would say a brilliant leader, with either bad or good intentions, but brilliant none the less.

Please tell us who said it.

I'll take "someone avoiding a question who also thinks his audience consists of ten-year-olds and morons."

Rummy was obviously avoiding the question. And the media let him get away with it by taking that as a quote.
