I listened to the riot act the girl gave me on what to do and what not to do, but I'm wondering, do I really have to keep it in there for eight whole weeks? What's the soonest I can change earrings?

Yes. The full eight weeks. Your ear needs time to heal. Even if it doesn't feel sore it is still a puncture on the inside and it needs to be fully healed before you start messing with it so that you don't get an infection. I know it seems like a long time but what's eight weeks out of the rest of your life to guarantee that you don't have problems with it?

the soonest? 2 weeks...cartilage especially will not 'clamp down' that fast, the time it takes to change jewelry will not allow for most piercings to close-it could be a bit difficult to reinsert the jewelry but the biggest worry for you is to be sure the new jewelry, your hands, and the area is clean before changing.

Keep it for the full time, if you take it out too early the hole can clamp down quick and its hard to get the earring back in.

yeah...i got mine done in January,,,and tried to change it in feb...and about died...leave it like she says...i did get the guts to change it in 5 weeks but it closed on the smaller earring...i about died again opening it up ...but i got it...do what she says....make sure you keep it clean....always clean the back...or you'll get green gross stuff...wash it very well...after mine healed i put a hoop...but honestly it looks trashy...i am either gonna put a stud...or take it out all together....

the upper ear is tricky... it heals super fast and it gets infected fast too. and it hurts too. take care of it.
